How to fix a dead pixel on a Canon Rebel T2i

I was shooting some video tonight when I noticed a small white pixel that I knew shouldn’t have been there. I thought at first that it could have been a speck of dust stuck on the lens, so I quickly took out some compressed air and eliminated all the dust. After powering the camera back up I noticed the white pixel was still there, so after about 5 minutes of trying different things, I found a way to fix it!

The method is simple. Remove the lens and attach the body cap. Next, set the camera into manual mode (M) and click <menu>. You’ll want to select “Sensor Cleaning” under one of the settings tabs. Next select “Clean Manually.” The shutter will open and after about 30 to 60 seconds, turn off the camera. In my case the white speckĀ disappeared, although you may experience different results.

Happy shooting!
