Startech 4U Server Case Review
In today’s review, I take a look at the Startech 4U Server Case.
Construction:
The case features a full 1mm steel construction to offer a superior build quality when compared to other cases. 2 handles are on the front of the unit to offer easy installation and removal when used in conjunction with a server rack. Speaking of server racks, this case features two spots where you can install rails for rack mounting. Case entry only requires the removal of 2 screws. Thumbscrews would have been preferred, but are not included.
Cooling:
Included with this case, is a server class 120mm front fan (with included dust filter), which is found under the front panel door. Two optional 60mm fans can be installed on the back of the case. The included fans are not extremely loud, however, it’s not something you would like to hear all day in an office environment. This case was obviously designed to be installed in a server room.
Hardware Accommodation:
This case accommodates full size ATX motherboards, and has 7 expansion slots with included covers. As far as drives go, this case has 3 5.25 inch drive bays, 1 external 3.5 inch hard drive bay, and 1 internal 3.5 inch hard drive bay.
The front of the case features 1 PS2 port which is connected to the motherboard with an included PS2 to header adapter.
Switches / Indicators:
Behind the front panel door, you’ll find:
- 1 Power LED
- 1 Hard drive activity LED
- 1 Fan failure warning LED
- 2 Temperature warning LEDs
Thoughts:
After testing this case, I can honestly say that it’s pretty fantastic. Build quality is second to none, and included cooling is fantastic. While this case could have included a few more hard drive bays for users who are looking to create massive file servers, the overall set of features this case features far expended expectations.
Overall rating: 4/5
